Autistic Self-Advocacy Council - Nova Scotia (ASAC-NS)

 Who Are We?

ASAC-NS is a community-based and self-directed not-for-profit group of people on the Autism Spectrum that gives people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (also known as people with ASD, autistic people, or people on the Autism Spectrum) an opportunity to have their own voice on the issues, decisions, and practical day-to-day challenges that affect their lives, and the opportunity to support each other for greater overall success. Much more than a membership group, ASAC-NS is a community of people on the Autism Spectrum who are interested in learning about the issues that affect our lives, having a conscientious say in decisions that affect autistic people, and sharing our knowledge and experience with all autistic people and interested parties across the province.

Mission Statement

The mission of ASAC-NS is to advocate for Nova Scotians with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and to help Nova Scotians with Autism Spectrum Disorders to become more effective and knowledgable advocates for themselves.

Membership

Membership in ASAC-NS is free, and any Nova Scotian on the Autism Spectrum may join. A formal diagnosis of ASD is not required, but it should be noted that this group is intended for people on the Spectrum who are sincerely interested in self-advocacy, and having a say in the issues that effect their lives and the lives of other autistic Nova Scotians.
