Acknowledgements - Summer Camp Supporters

The summer of 2010 saw the launch of the Provincial Autism Centre's day camp for children with ASD. This camp features specialized supports that allow children with Autism Spectrum Disorders to enjoy activities and experiences much like their typically developing peers, and an incomparable 1:1 camper to counsellor ratio to support children who would not otherwise be able to participate in camp programs.

For children with ASD, having the chance to participate in summer day camp represents the chance to build independence and self-esteem, to make new friends and have new adventures in the community. Being able to go to summer camp helps these children to be healthy and happy, with camp routines that help prepare them for a more successful transition back to school. Families benefit from a break, and from the increased confidence that comes from knowing that their children are having a great summer experience.
