Individualized Employment Supports
Individualized Employment Supports (IES) is a person‑directed, employment‑focused approach for working‑age Autistic adults. It starts with a PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) to help identify employment goals, strengths, and next steps, and continues with one-on-one support as they work toward their goals. We are currently welcoming expressions of interest in this service and are aiming for launch in June 2026. In the meantime, we continue to welcome requests for pre‑employment coaching and employment coaching supports. IES is based on meeting people where they are at. Staff walk alongside individuals over time and use a flexible set of tools based on what each person needs, prefers, and wants to achieve in employment. IES is available in Central Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and the Annapolis Valley. There is no cost to participate, and a formal diagnosis is not required.
Ages/Life Stage:

Supports are provided one-on-one and are typically offered in person at the organization’s office, in the individual’s community, or at the workplace, as this is often the most helpful. Virtual meetings may be available when needed, based on individual preference and availability.
Location, communication methods, and pace of support are chosen together with the individual.

Description:
The goal of Individualized Employment Supports is to help Autistic adults identify, work toward, and achieve meaningful employment goals through person‑directed planning and individualized, relationship-based support.
This approach:
- Starts with an employment‑focused PATH
- Offers flexible support for as long or as little time as needed (often up to 6–12 months)
- Can be shorter than 6-12 months or include a condensed PATH for those who already know their goals
- Includes job coaching (on or off the job)
- Provides supported referrals and community navigation
- Uses a flexible set of tools tailored to each person
Support follows the individual’s goals and pace and can change as needs, capacity, or employment situations change.
