Heavy Work Ideas

Have you ever noticed how toddlers love to climb, push, pull, or crash into things? That’s because the body craves movement and resistance. This kind of activity is called heavy work, and it helps build strength, coordination, and body awareness.

Here are some fun ways to add heavy work to the day:

Outdoor Heavy Work Ideas:

  • Climbing at the playground
  • Digging in sand or dirt
  • Pulling a wagon or carrying a small backpack
  • Swimming or splashing in water
  • Riding a tricycle

Indoor Heavy Work Ideas:

  • Stacking and knocking over couch cushions or big pillows
  • Rolling up in a blanket like a burrito and unrolling
  • Pushing or pulling a laundry basket filled with clothes
  • Rolling a yoga ball back and forth
  • Big hugs

These simple activities help toddlers learn how the body works while having fun!
