Autism Nova Scotia is thrilled to welcome back Amanda Debison as host of our 2025 Best of Local Gala. Amanda’s warmth, passion for storytelling, and dedication to community shine through in everything she does, making her the perfect host for this unforgettable evening.
For more than ten years, Amanda has brought the people and stories of our region to life on CTV Morning Live Atlantic. But her journey to journalism wasn’t always straightforward.
“I actually started out in theatre at Dalhousie,” Amanda explained. “I loved performing, but I realized what I really wanted was to tell real stories about the people in my community. That’s what drew me into journalism, learning something new every day, challenging myself, and helping others feel connected.”
Over the years, Amanda has interviewed countless people, from infectious disease specialists at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to everyday Nova Scotians making a difference in their neighbourhoods. Yet it’s not the big names that leave the deepest impact:
“The most impactful stories are about people who are just doing good work in their community,” she said. “Those are the ones that really matter.”
Her ability to balance serious news with uplifting storytelling is one of the reasons she loves her role on CTV Morning Live. “The morning show is special. We get to deliver the news people need, but we also highlight positive, inspiring stories. That fills my cup,” she said.
Amanda grew up in Lower Sackville, where childhood memories of walking to the local farm market or cheering her father home from naval deployments continue to influence how she connects with others today.
“As a child of a military family, I remember standing on the Halifax waterfront, waving goodbye to my dad when he went away and the overwhelming joy when he came home,” she shared. “That experience gave me so much respect for Canadian service members and their families.” Those experiences also strengthened her appreciation for community and the resilience of local families.
Her ties to Nova Scotia’s communities carry into her daily life. Whether running half marathons across the Maritimes, spending time with her husband and young son, or enjoying a quiet family walk in Shubie Park, Amanda looks for ways to stay grounded and celebrate the places and people she loves.
For those nervous about public speaking or being in the spotlight, Amanda offers simple advice. “Remember, you’re not alone. Everyone wants you to succeed. Be yourself, even if you don’t feel fully confident. People are rooting for you.”
Her empathy and encouragement make Amanda a trusted voice in Atlantic journalism and a cherished part of Autism Nova Scotia’s Best of Local Gala.
Autism Nova Scotia is proud to recognize CTV Morning Live Atlantic as the official Media Sponsor for the 2025 Best of Local Gala. Their continued support helps us amplify the voices of the Autistic community and the work of Autism Nova Scotia. We are also deeply grateful to Amanda Debison for returning as our host. Together, their partnership and commitment are greatly appreciated.
