Tips for Closing an Activity

For many children, stopping a fun activity and cleaning up can be a challenge. Use these small tips to help them feel more prepared, supported, and even enjoy clean-up time.

Simple strategies to make transitions easier:

  1. Wind down by being less enthusiastic and engaging in the activity.
  2. Start cleaning up early by putting away toys that aren’t being used to make the final clean-up smaller.
  3. Make clean-up fun by singing a song or turning it into a game.
  4. Try “first and then” language. Such as “First we clean up the blocks, then we can play outside!”
