Tips for Closing an Activity
For many children, stopping a fun activity and cleaning up can be a challenge. Use these small tips to help them feel more prepared, supported, and even enjoy clean-up time.
Simple strategies to make transitions easier:
- Wind down by being less enthusiastic and engaging in the activity.
- Start cleaning up early by putting away toys that aren’t being used to make the final clean-up smaller.
- Make clean-up fun by singing a song or turning it into a game.
- Try “first and then” language. Such as “First we clean up the blocks, then we can play outside!”
