Supporting Connection & Learning Through Colouring

QuickStart Quick Tips!

Looking for simple and engaging indoor activities for the colder months? It’s time to break out your art supplies!

Here’s how to support connection and learning during a colouring activity:

  • Follow their lead — Let your child choose the colours or decide what to draw.
  • Share the moment — Sit face-to-face, comment on what they’re doing, and celebrate – even small attempts.
  • Demonstrate + expand — If they draw a line, draw one too. Add simple words like “blue!” “circle!” or “wow, that’s a big line!”
  • Take turns — Add a shape, then let you child add something too. Keep it playful and fun.

A few minutes of colouring can turn into connection, communication, and joyful learning.
