When Passion Meets Purpose: Landon’s Tip-to-Tip Run

Born and raised on Cape Sable Island, a small island off Nova Scotia’s southern tip, Landon Smith knows what it means to work hard. As a lobster fisherman, runner, and father, Landon is preparing for a new challenge: running more than 780 kilometres, tip to tip across Nova Scotia, in support of Autism Nova Scotia.

“I wanted to challenge myself by pushing my body and mind out of its comfort zone, but I also wanted to do something that mattered,” says Landon.

Running has been part of Landon’s life for nearly a decade. It started as a way to stay fit, and over time, became a form of therapy, and a passion. The idea for this provincial run took shape after watching fellow runner Allison McFadden complete the same route in 2024. Landon was inspired not just by the distance, but by Allison’s determination. Seeing her journey planted the idea it was possible.

“I have a nephew who is Autistic,” Landon shares. “I chose to run in support of Autism Nova Scotia because I wanted to help other kids and families who need support and resources. With Regional Autism Centres across the province, this run will be a great way to connect with communities and raise awareness along the way.

Preparing for a run of this magnitude takes a team. Landon is training with Jodi Isenor, a respected name in Nova Scotia’s trail running community, who will ensure he’s ready not just to start, but to finish strong. Nutrition is equally important, and Landon is working with his friend Keithyon Shirley, a bodybuilder and fellow lobster fisherman, to stay fuelled throughout the demanding trek.

Landon is also grateful for the support of community partners, including Locke’s Lifestyle Sporting & Outdoor Adventure and On Running, who are helping equip him for the journey ahead.

Landon is hoping to start his run this fall. Stay tuned for more details and follow along as he takes on this incredible journey. He hopes to inspire others, celebrate community, and show that when passion meets purpose, every action, every kilometre, can create meaningful change.
